We all went down to the swanky Grosvenor Casino in Edgware Road, London last night because it was BazzyG's birthday and we all fancied a bit of a punt.
We arrived at the Grosvenor Casino around 10pm, it was the first time any of us had been to this casino and so we all had to sign up for membership. Interesting to note that my Hard Rock casino membership was also good for the Grosvenor too. Handy.
The Grosvenor was a fairly typical casino offering the standard roulette, blackjack, 3 card poker, etc as you will find in many UK casinos. There were limits for all kinds of bankrolls starting from £5 roulette and £10 blackjack upwards. There was a nice casual atmosphere - nothing hyper exciting but not too dull - just nice.
But we didn't come for the blackjack or the atmosphere, we came for the poker! Situated towards the rear of the casino ground floor and taking up a small percentage of the first floor are no limit texas holdem poker tables. Games on offer to us were pot limit and no limit cash tables of £25, £50, £100, and £200 to sit down.
We found the table charge a bit steep. For the £25 no limit cash table that was self-dealt the charge was £4 per hour. The tables themselves in my opinion were not amazing quality either. Gutshot tables are much nicer and their table charge is a lot less self-dealt.
Friday night at the Grosvenor Casino is a monster re-buy tourney night with £10 entry and unlimited £10 re-buys for the first hour. We didn't have any of that as it looked like a bit of a monkey-fest. It was purely cash tables for us for the night.
BazzyG got off to a good start and turned £25 into £80 in a matter of minutes. Duff and myself weren't doing too bad and Kels unfortunaltely got unlucky. Bless her - she had been sitting tight all night, raised all in preflop and her 77 ran into AQu. Between four of us after about 90 minutes play we were up about £60 which was nice.
Looking for a spot of food, we found a fine dining restaraunt upstairs and a bar food / snacky bit downstairs. All the food at the Grosvenor Casino was spot on and the staff were nice and friendly even though we got them to re-arrange half the tables for us so we could all sit down with our guests. I can heartily reccommend the duck wraps from the Grosvenor Casino's downstairs bar. YUM!
Kels and I sat down to a bit of low limit video roulette while waiting for others to finish dining and made £18 out of a fiver.
By this time it is now about 1am and we sit down for another hour of poker before returning home. Maybe it was the drink, maybe it was the tiredness but we all ended up getting butchered in the second half of our night. The cards were just not going Duff's way where each draw he was on just did not come for him. Kels kept getting raised out of pots and I had my TT busted by JJ!
We walked out of the Grosvenor Casino at 2am with a little less than what we went in with but then for such a good night's entertainment and for the celebration of BazzyG's birthday it was well worth it.
